Tourist Junks Floating Village
Halong Bay captivates from any angle, but the best ways to take in its natural beauty is from the sea or the air. Hop aboard a traditional junk boat and wind your way around the bay’s 1,600 islands. Or ride across the bay on the Queen Telpher cable car system, which holds two Guinness World Records.
Cat Ba Limestone Langur
Thirty-two species – including macaques, cuckoos, giant black squirrels and most of the world’s remaining 65 white-headed langurs – call Cát Bà National park home. Hike along one of the park’s many trails, or make your way to the summit of Ngu Lam peak for panoramic views of the park’s dense emerald jungle.
One of the best things to do in Halong Bay is to rent a kayak and explore the area’s 1,600 islands. Paddle out to secluded grottos nestled between towering limestone formations, pristine stretches of shoreline, and hidden caves filled with impressive stalagmites and stalactites.
Halong Bay has no shortage of local spots where you’ll find all kinds of delicious flavours. The seafood here is always a great option, caught fresh daily in the surrounding waters. Keep a lookout for local specialities, like sticky rice with grilled squid, pancakes with meat and mushrooms, and soaked rice wine.
Cruise to Halong Bay to wander along the waterfront and you’ll find lots of rowboats docked with vendors selling snacks, fresh fish, local knick-knacks and souvenirs. You can also head to the Halong Marina Plaza for retail shops selling clothes and home products, plus live entertainment most afternoons.
